An Introduction

For those of you who don’t know me from a Seattle Area tack shop where I specialized in all things saddles, my name is Dawn Anderson. I’ve branched out on my own, to provide saddle fitting and reflocking services to Western Washington horse owners.

I was trained in England on saddle fit by the Society of Master Saddlers, vis a vis their Introduction to Saddle Fit course. More recently, I was taught how to properly reflock saddles on a bench and adjust saddles onsite by Master Saddler Ian Hastilow. Ian has been a Master Saddler for decades, and is a member of the prestigious Worshipful Company of Saddlers. He has done work for the Royal Army, and is passionate that horses have the best fitting saddles possible. I have been truly blessed to be under his tutelage.

My goal is simple: to ensure that my clients (both four-legged and two-legged) are safe and comfortable when it comes to their saddles.   Above all, I consider myself an advocate for the horse, and I will do all that I can to help you as a horse owner, understand the essentials of saddle fit; so that you can learn to recognize when there’s a problem before it turns into a disaster.

I’ve been fortunate to have some of the best saddlers on earth teach me how to fit and reflock saddles, and I intend to continue my education by going through the Society of Master Saddlers’ Qualifications Program.  I will be the only Qualified Saddle Fitter as recognized by the SMS in the state of Washington.

But at the end of the day, it’s not about the credentials.  It’s about the love of the horse.  I believe we owe it to them to ensure that they are as comfortable as possible so that they may be our willing partners.  And if I can help horses and their people achieve that, then I know I’ve done my job.

I look forward to helping you and your horses.

~Dawn
